Are your students completing their CDA course by June 30th? If so, they are eligible…

…to participate in the pilot program of the CDA Exam on a computer and complete the credentialing process much faster!

This spring, we need your help in encouraging CDA Candidates to participate in a pilot test of the CDA Exam on a computer. In exchange for participating in the pilot CDA Exam and providing us with feedback, Candidates will earn $50 and receive a credentialing decision within 15 business days of taking the exam.

We are updating the CDA Exam to be in line with current best practices and research and to administer it at a testing center. As part of this process, it is essential that we gather information about the Candidate’s testing experience. We need as many Candidates as possible to participate in the pilot exam.

Here are the highlights:

  1. Only basic computer skills are needed.
  2. The Candidate will take the CDA Exam on a computer at a testing center of      her/his choice. Please visit the website to locate the nearest test center: www.pearsonvue.com/cdaexam (If this link does not work, please cut and paste the URL into your web browser).
  3. The Candidate will sign up to take the CDA Exam whenever it is convenient for her/him.
  4. The Candidate may choose to take the Exam in English or Spanish.
  5. The CDA Oral Interview is included in the computer exam as scenario / picture questions.
  6. Along with the application, the Candidate will mail to the Council her/his 6 Statements of Competence, Autobiography, Observation Instrument completed by the Advisor, collected parent questionnaires and a copy of the pediatric first aid certificate
  7. The Candidate will receive her/his credentialing decision within 15 business days of completing the Exam.
  8. The Candidate will receive a $50 check once she/he submits feedback to the Council.

All documents will be verified at the Council for Professional Recognition. Please note that participating in the pilot does not guarantee a CDA Credential (Candidates still need to demonstrate competence through all collected evidence).

Please inform your students of this great opportunity. You may download the signup form on our website www.cdacouncil.org/cdaexam and distribute it among the CDA Candidates with whom you work (If this link does not work, please cut and paste the URL into your web browser).

Our website also has many useful resources for the CDA Candidates who wish to participate: (1) the CDA Computer Exam Tutorial, (2) the CDA Computer Exam Pilot Prep Guide and (3) access to the Feedback Survey. Feel free to download and distribute these resources.

Please note that to participate in this exam pilot, Candidates still must pay the $325 application fee and must apply by June 30th. Upon completion of the pilot exam feedback form, the Council will send the Candidate the $50 check.

Thank you for your help as we update and refine the CDA process.

First Annual Sahuarita Disabilities Day: a SUCCESS!

It was intended to be an outdoor event at the Sahuarita Town Hall but because the temperatures were in the 40′s and around 9 a.m. the rain clouds set in, we moved the event into the Sahuarita Town Council Chambers.  We had over 20 non-profit organizations who provide services and support to persons of all ages with physical or mental disabilities in attendance and giving out information about programs available to Sahuarita and Green Valley, and we also had 7 Outstanding program speakers discussing topics ranging from mental illnesses to the importance of an inclusive community.  The event emcee was Vanessa Felty, Director of the United Way of Tucson & Southern Arizona’s Green Valley office.  There were approximately 100 persons in attendance, which is GREAT considering the uncertain weather and the fact that it is a brand new community event.

3rd Quarter South Pima Coordination of Services Community Partner Meeting is on Jan. 24

Do you represent a non-profit organization or community based group which offers services to families with young children age birth to five years old in South Pima County?

If “yes”, please click here to register today for our next quarterly community partner meeting.

Background:
Beginning in February of 2011, the South Pima Regional Partnership Council of First Things First has funded the ”Coordination of Services” strategy.  United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s Green Valley Satellite office manages the work under the coordination strategy and partners with PRO Neighborhoods and ALTA Consulting to implement the objectives under the grant.  The strategy focuses its efforts in the greater South Pima County region, and more specifically in Amado, Arivaca, Sasabe, Three Points, Summit View and the 85706 zip code (South Tucson).  Key stakeholders in each of the communities provided data in early to mid 2011 which identified each community’s assets and prioritized needs for families or caregivers with young children.  Starting in July of 2011, the focus of United Way has been to work within the South Pima region to develop a seamless service delivery system for programs and services which target families with young children age birth to five.  Through quarterly meetings which have taken place thus far in August and November of 2011, over 60 representatives of non-profit agencies that serve families in South Pima County have come together to share information about their programs and identify ways they can collaborate to address the gaps in services and capacity issues that exist.

For more information about the South Pima Coordiantion of Services strategy, please contact United Way’s Green Valley office at 520-300-5777 or email greenvalleyoffice@unitedwaytucscon.org.

BEYOND: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit

The events of January 8, 2011 shook the Greater Tucson community to the core, affecting each of us deeply. It was a horrible day.

But in the months after, members of Gabe Zimmerman’s family and a diverse coalition of community partners came together to craft a positive response to the tragedy and out came the Tucson Trails Tribute and the event:  BEYOND: * Commemorate * Celebrate * Commit.

BEYOND is a series of events throughout Greater Tucson and Southern Arizona to commemorate the anniversary of January 8th, celebrate the spirit of togetherness, re-commit ourselves to working together to build a stronger community every day with the full awareness that getting out and active with others promotes physical and mental health.

BEYOND will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012, from sun up to sun down across Greater Tucson and Southern Arizona.
On this first anniversary of the tragedy, there will be opportunities to walk, hike, run, stroll, be artistic, learn new skills, and generally come together as a community. Our goal is to commemorate a terrible event with positive action, celebrate the place we call home, and commit to a better future.

Team Sahuarita will be taking part in BEYOND at Anamax Park, to help commemorate the tragedy with a positive re-commitment to build a stronger community and get out with others to promote physical and mental health.

To sign up to attend a BEYOND event, click HERE.

Team Sahuarita needs your help! If you represent an organization that would like to do an activity or volunteer in any way at the BEYOND at Anamax Park event, please contact Andrea Dalessandro at 520-648-2092 or BeyondSahuarita@aol.com.  We encourage you to get involved in any way that you can!
